With two different styles of passes to chose from, the Oz-Flexi Kilometre Pass or the Oz-Choice Explorer Pass, it’s easy to create your perfect trip with Greyhound and YHA. And in peak periods, Greyhound has multiple daily departures on most routes, so you never miss the bus!
Oz-Flexi Kilometre Pass
The Oz-Flexi Kilometre pass allows unlimited travel on the Greyhound network up to the number of kilometres you choose to purchase. This means you can travel for a few months, work for a few months and then hit the road again without having to purchase a new pass.
Once you’ve worked out how far you want to travel, choose the number of nights you’d like to spend in YHA hostels.
For example: 3,000 kilometres will get you from Sydney to Cairns, and you can combine this with YHA accommodation vouchers for a cost of $957.
You can even use your kilometre pass like cash to purchase a variety of travel experiences around Australia. Explore the Great Barrier Reef for 1,300 kilometres or go skydiving for 2,950 kilometres. For more travel experiences, visit the Greyhound website.

Oz-Choice Explorer Pass
Oz-Choice Explorer Passes are also designed for independent travellers and allow unlimited stops. Unlike the Oz-Flexi pass, the Oz-Choice pass travels along a pre-determined route, and travel is in one direction only. Depending on the route you chose, you have between one and twelve months to explore Australia.
Set routes include Brisbane to Cairns, Adelaide to Cairns, Sydney to Darwin, Perth to Darwin and All Australian (or v.v for all routes).
Accommodation
After you’ve chosen your package, you can pick the number of nights you’d like to spend in YHA hostels – 10, 15, 25, 35 or 50. You will receive vouchers for the corresponding number of nights that you can exchange for a bed in a multishare room at YHA hostels around Australia.
Want to upgrade to a twin or single? No problems – check with the hostel and pay the difference between the value of the voucher and the cost of the private room.
When planning your trip across the country, remember that the vouchers are valid for a maximum of three consecutive nights at each YHA hostel, and they can’t be used at Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon, Thredbo and Mount Buller during ski season and wilderness or groups only hostels.
Membership
To purchase these packages, you’ll need a valid YHA or HI membership. If you’re an Australian resident, you can purchase this online. If not, don’t worry – you can buy one through your travel agent, your local HI association or at your first YHA hostel when you arrive.
